Water is the medium through which we observe our environment. Water is a precious environmental resource, a witness to movement, an essential ingredient above and underground, and a material on which people depend for survival.
The implementation of the EFMA irrigation project has brought about significant changes in the allocation of water resources within the Alentejo region.
This initiative has resulted in the expansion of irrigated crop areas, leading to the emergence of a mono-agricultural system, along with inadequate supervision and infractions that now presents risks to both the environment and public health.
The 'Mapping Infractions' platform wants to create a co-regulatory environment in which multiple stakeholders can contribute to safeguarding the rights of local people and the land on which they depend.
